7-5-2011 New Post About Upgrading Miva 4 to 5

By now, you may have received an email from MIVA Merchant regarding the Miva Merchant 4.x PA-DSS Update and End of Life Announcement. We wanted to take a minute to clarify the points made in the email and provide the e-Business Express position on the Miva 4 EOL.

As outlined in the announcement, MIVA Merchant has elected to no longer support Miva 4 after December 31, 2011 and are recommending all Miva 4 user upgrade their stores at the earliest opportunity to MIVA 5.5 PR7 (the latest version of MIVA). Miva 5 PR7 offers many valuable enhancements including:

• A highly intuitive Admin interface focusing on click-efficiency
• Seamless import/export of all items and pages to/from Dreamweaver™
• Built-in SEO features including full control of DOCTYPE, Product, and Category Metatags, and search-friendly links.
• The ability to build a new store entirely on the new skins-enabled CSS framework.
• PA-DSS Validated product release level.
• Enhanced Order Processing features including RMA’s and editing of existing orders.
• Built-in Order History and Order Status with Tracking links.
• Inventory is now supported at the attribute level.

We recommend upgrading to Miva 5.5 PR7 to take advantage of the product enhancements and PA-DSS for PCI compliance provided by Miva Merchant. There are several steps that must be completed in order to successfully complete the upgrade process. Just a word of caution, Miva has provided a number of tools to help in the conversion, however it‘s still pretty easy to corrupt your store, even if you’re experienced in Miva upgrades and module installs. You can upgrade the store yourself, or have us complete the upgrade to Miva 5.5.

No matter how you decide to complete the Miva 5.5 upgrade, we suggest scheduling a free upgrade consultation with e-Business Express before you do anything. During the consultation, we’ll discuss the following:

• Your current release level and plug-in modules
• The steps required to complete the upgrade
• Upgrade tools available
• Any questions you may have

In the event it is not possible or practical to upgrade to Miva 5.5 at this time, e-Business Express will continue to support your Miva 4 store, even after the Miva Merchant EOL date of December 31, 2010.
